The long read…
For those who want more detail
For more than 30 years, pay has not kept pace with the cost of living, with people living week-to-week with no disposable income, often living with parents, renting, and being unable to get on the property ladder. Many rely on payday loans, credit cards and other means of borrowing.
Tens of millions are in debt to the point where worry and life's pressures now affect their mental and physical health.
Regardless of your skin colour, age or gender, the salary we take home has far-reaching consequences, from debt and poor mental health to child poverty and even suicide. Change starts here.
But first, why change anything?
Sigh. Where do we start? Perhaps with the frustrating and unfair recruitment process, where you could be one of a hundred (or more) candidates applying for a role? Or the bias that exists when employers filter job applications to reduce the number of applicants? The fact that millions of people are not paid their true worth and can barely afford to live? That the minimum wage is too low, causing debt and poor mental health? Sexism? The gender pay gap? Racism? Ableism? The list for change goes on.
But just as significant, consider the effect on morale, productivity, profitability, and world economies.
Not left nor right
We should clarify that we are a non-political organisation with straightforward objectives; to help people, help communities, and help businesses flourish. To make finding the right people quick and easy.
Society has become awash with statistics, research, analysis, reports, inquiries and reviews and once published and debated, we await the next one!
How many more statistics, independent inquiries, and reports do we need before we recognise a problem and try something different?
With this in mind, we made the change ourselves, brushing aside the rhetoric, scepticism and doubt, investing time and money with the hope and determination to change the lives of millions. God willing.
The good news: change is finally here. Our platform is now live. With people prepared to help themselves.
The Solution
Conceived amidst the Covid pandemic, our patent-pending approach of matching job roles to perfect candidates combines altruism, business logic, and good old-fashioned fairness, which delivers massive benefits for employers and candidates.
But, as you've seen, this is not a conventional job site. There are NO jobs advertised here, nor is it an employment community or sales platform like other websites you may use.
It is something far better.
What is this place?
Simply put, it's a game-changer!
Welcome to the world's first anonymous employment and people marketplace, designed for both those happily employed and those actively looking for employment. The difference; employers find you, not the other way around.
This 'whole market' approach gives employers potential access to everyone, not just those applying for roles in the traditional sense.
This represents massive opportunities for employers to tap into the best talent but equally ensures people are well paid.
Besides recruitment going from noticeboards and newspapers to online, the recruitment process has remained unchanged for many decades, with applicants submitting their CV or resume having seen an advert for a role. What follows is the usual disappointment of applying, waiting and, more often than not, hearing nothing.
At Setyourworth, we have flipped the traditional recruitment process, meaning no more CVs or resumes, no more job adverts and no more discrimination of any kind. Better still, imagine never needing to apply for a job again; instead, let great employers find you! Better for you, better for them.
Happy and employed? That's great, but with your profile complete, your growing skills and attributes will make you even more valuable to other employers, employers who are willing to pay YOUR salary expectation. So why not create your profile, wait…and let fate decide?
Not as you’ve seen before
Unlike any other platform or job site you've seen, at Setyourworth, employers find perfect candidates in minutes, based on their own search parameters, who then agree ‘in principle’ to the salary YOU set ahead of inviting you to interview.
This is without knowing your age, gender or even your skin colour.
A game-changer.
Why would employers agree to that? That's simple. Without posting a job advert, waiting and filtering through hundreds of applicants, employers find perfectly matched candidates in a matter of minutes, right here, right now.
The cost savings are enormous because, besides the joining fee and small annual subscription, our service is FREE to use. Employers can search for as many candidates as they like, as often as they like.
Additionally, employers will often get far more than they initially hoped, with the ability to specify things like industry software and machinery knowledge, second languages, specialist skills, personality traits, strengths, values and more.
The logic of a payrise
Do employers hold the key to economic recovery, growth and prosperity?
Let us consider some basic economics. Imagine this:
A company makes widgets and pays its staff the minimum it can. On the face of it, a good idea, right? The staff struggle to pay their bills, many rely on credit cards and payday loans, morale is low, productivity is poor and sick days are high. Widget sales are slow.
Let us assume the entire country is just a large village. We all live in the village.
The village is neither rich nor poor, with pockets of wealth and pockets of poverty. Sound familiar?
The shops in the village are struggling to make ends meet too. It so happens all the shops use the company's widgets in each of their products, but as shop sales are low, they are not ordering widgets.
With sales of widgets at an all-time low, the owner takes the leap of faith, giving each staff member a well-deserved pay rise. With their new disposable income, the staff spend their extra cash in the village shops, restaurants and bars. The high street businesses, with their increased sales, then order more widgets.
The widget staff are happy, more motivated and productive. Morale is high and sick days are non-existent. The high street is busy and bustling; there is a buzz and new enthusiasm for the future – and widget sales are, of course, up!
Food for thought.
As controversial as the above sounds, a successful and wise man once said:
"The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do." Steve Jobs
Who is smarter?
Having joined, you create a secure profile in our system, an unconventional, confidential profile that replaces the need for a CV or resume.
But unlike a CV or resume, knowing the names of educational establishments or companies where you have worked is unimportant.
What you have learned and bring to the table is far more important.
You will notice the absence of subjects and grades, instead replaced with academic bandings to indicate the level of education you have attained, for example, a high school, college or university education.
We have also included the 'university of life' for those whose life skills and experience outweigh a memory test more moons ago than they care to recall.
While education and a continued learning pathway are essential to achieving our life goals, we are not advocates of exam day. When you think about it, exam day is merely a memory test, a performance on a single day when our hormones were doing this, that and the other!
Some people have exceptional academic memories, but others do not. Some people cope well under exam pressure, and again others do not. Therefore does the performance on a single day, many years ago, really identify who is better educated or more suitable for a role? Add in a little creative licence when it comes to specifying exam grades on a CV or resume, and the fact that most employers do not check exam grades anyway makes the whole exam process a mockery.
As you can tell, we are not convinced that historic exam results detailed on a CV or resume give an employer anything tangible or beneficial. Instead, we provide many other methods of finding perfect candidates by helping employers match working preferences, experience, achievements, personality traits, values, strengths, management styles, and so much more.
Say goodbye to CVs and resumes. Forever.
Far more than they hoped
Employers will often get far more than they initially hoped, with the ability to specify things like software and machinery knowledge, second languages, specialist skills, personality traits, strengths, values and more.
Each unique element can then be assessed with the candidate communicating their proficiency at each skill.
Security & Privacy
The profile created on our secure site is YOURS and yours alone.
You can toggle your profile from 'live' to 'Incognito', meaning you decide when employers can match to your anonymous profile.
Without your permission, no one can identify you, contact you, or see any private information. When an enquiring company searches, the results list indicates candidates by a random ID code, for example, DF56778H.
As previously mentioned, member'’ profiles do not include the names of companies they've worked at or are now working for, so there is no joining the dots. You are completely anonymous.
All profiles have enhanced security features and use two-stage authentication to allow access. When accessing your secure vault to update your profile, a secure secondary link is sent to your provided email address, meaning absolute security and confidentiality.
Your privacy is paramount. You will not find any wide-sweeping terms granting us access to your data in our Terms and Conditions or Privacy Policy. Your data is YOURS and how we use it is entirely at your discretion.
Search Results
With your completed profile 'live' and anonymous, enquiring employers, use our high-tech search platform to describe the position and candidate they wish to hire.
The employer defines all the attributes, skills, experience, values, strengths, personal traits and working preferences (not exhaustive) that would make up the ideal candidate. They click 'SEARCH', and the magic happens!
Clever algorithms search for perfect candidates, presenting the employer with a shortlist of anonymous people, one of whom could be you.
Candidate matches are displayed with a summary providing each candidate's location (Town or City), salary expectation and a non-identifiable candidate ID. The employer knows that the candidates on the shortlist match their specific criteria by a percentile score, which is hugely beneficial to the employer.
Factoring in the salary expectations, the enquiring employer then seeks consent from the candidates they wish to interview. Permission is obtained via our system to maintain each candidate's ongoing anonymity.
You Decide
During this process, the enquiring company will provide the following information to the unnamed candidates:
An acknowledgement of the candidate's salary expectation
The name of the company and the company website
A brief description of the role
A specific point of contact, with email and a phone number
This allows each candidate to research the company and decide whether to grant consent to move to the next stage, the interview. The interview is initiated by the candidate using the contact details provided.
Have you ever been to an interview where the chances to better yourself have been so in your favour?
Why would I pay to join?
Perhaps the better question is, why would you not?
If, having joined, you subsequently receive an offer of employment with a salary that YOU set, wouldn't the tiny cost be worth it?
What if the company offered better prospects and was 5 miles closer to your home, or better still, happy that you could choose when you came into the office or stayed home? These are things to consider.
Why do we charge in the first place?
Two reasons: along with flipping the traditional and expensive recruitment process upside down, we have opted for a new, shared approach, spreading the cost of recruitment. This is much fairer and supports a self-perpetuating model that works for everyone. With our service free for companies to use, they no longer need to worry about expensive recruitment costs, meaning they are more likely to meet your salary expectation.
One other primary reason we charge a joining fee is validation; this is to prevent large volumes of false accounts from being created by parties with an ulterior motive or agenda. Security is paramount.
The critics will say that companies should pay for recruitment. But that is the traditional, dated recruitment model, a model that we know has its shortcomings, including low salaries, inequality, discrimination and disappointment. Let's try something different.
The Setyourworth platform is an annual subscription-based service with members under no obligation to renew beyond their initial one-year membership included in their joining fee. Renewals are optional, allowing members to try the service for a year with no commitment other than the small joining fee.
